{"id":711,"date":"2012-06-21T13:57:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-21T13:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suigenerisbrewing.com\/index.php\/2012\/06\/21\/labelize-the-brew\/"},"modified":"2017-09-15T17:37:19","modified_gmt":"2017-09-15T17:37:19","slug":"labelize-the-brew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suigenerisbrewing.com\/index.php\/2012\/06\/21\/labelize-the-brew\/","title":{"rendered":"Labelize the brew"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been brewing for nearly 18 years, but despite that, I&#8217;ve never given much thought to naming my beers, nor to making labels for my bottles. \u00a0Motivated by the amazing labels some brewers have made (here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homebrewtalk.com\/f46\/show-us-your-label-229144\/\">a whole thread of amazing examples<\/a>, over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homebrewtalk.com\/\">HomeBrewTalk<\/a>), I decided to try myself. \u00a0Being both a professional scientist, and a science nerd in\u00a0general, I&#8217;ve decided to go with science-themed beer names.<\/p>\n<p>This is my first attempt at a label, for my first all-grain beer since returning to brewing:<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-QYBvStyqxBM\/T-EUk8vHLQI\/AAAAAAAAAG4\/P7Uc8RGZVwI\/s1600\/parallax%2Bpale%2Bale.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-QYBvStyqxBM\/T-EUk8vHLQI\/AAAAAAAAAG4\/P7Uc8RGZVwI\/s320\/parallax%2Bpale%2Bale.png?resize=320%2C28&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"320\" height=\"28\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">This is a &#8216;tax stamp&#8217; style label, with the brewery logo (the black circle)\u00a0centred\u00a0over the cap, and the remainder glued to the neck of the bottle. \u00a0The QR code (generated by the excellent free service at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.qrstuff.com\/\">http:\/\/www.qrstuff.com<\/a>) encodes the recipe for 23L (5 imp Gal\/6US Gal) of beer. \u00a0The beer itself is a heavily hopped pale ale, with a bit of a kick (6.0% ABV; in reality its probably 6.2%).<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">As for the name &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parallax\">parallax<\/a> is a way of measuring distances by measuring the apparent change in position of an object as the position of the observer changes. \u00a0Its used to plot the position of close stars, by\u00a0measuring\u00a0the change in position of the star as the earth moves 1\/2 way through its orbit. \u00a0What does parallax have to do with beer? \u00a0Very little &#8211; unless you drink too much, after which your defocused eyes may give you a bit of a\u00a0sense\u00a0of parallax&#8230;<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been brewing for nearly 18 years, but despite that, I&#8217;ve never given much thought to naming my beers, nor<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[9,4],"tags":[198],"class_list":["post-711","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-diy","category-homebrewing","tag-labels"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
