{"id":707,"date":"2012-07-17T13:30:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T13:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suigenerisbrewing.com\/index.php\/2012\/07\/17\/kegging-the-moon\/"},"modified":"2017-09-15T17:36:15","modified_gmt":"2017-09-15T17:36:15","slug":"kegging-the-moon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suigenerisbrewing.com\/index.php\/2012\/07\/17\/kegging-the-moon\/","title":{"rendered":"Kegging the moon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-KzE_w8-0ShY\/T_mtef0W0GI\/AAAAAAAAAJM\/DbhfX2bSN58\/s1600\/La%2BLune%2BBleu%2B-%2BTap.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-KzE_w8-0ShY\/T_mtef0W0GI\/AAAAAAAAAJM\/DbhfX2bSN58\/s320\/La%2BLune%2BBleu%2B-%2BTap.jpg?resize=60%2C320&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"60\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The La Lune Bleu is now kegged and carbed &#8211; an old recipe combined with my first attempt at kegging makes for an interesting experience.<\/p>\n<p>The kegging was great &#8211; essentially\u00a0consisting\u00a0of the first step of bottling &#8211; you transfer into a clean container. \u00a0And then you&#8217;re done &#8211; no mixing sugar, no\u00a0transferring\u00a0to bottles, not capping. \u00a0Just a few seconds blast of CO<sub>2<\/sub> to purge the O<sub>2<\/sub> and away you go. \u00a0Not being a patient man, I took a bit of a carbing shortcut &#8211; I pressurized to 30PSI, unhooked the gas line, and shook the beer. \u00a0This got it ~50% of the way carb&#8217;d. \u00a0I then hooked up the lines, re-pressurized to serving pressure (14PSI) and let sit until carb&#8217;d &#8211; about 3 days. \u00a0Beer was properly carb&#8217;d when tested on day 4.<\/p>\n<p>There is one minor problem, that being the first few seconds of a pour are all foam. \u00a0A bit of investigating has revealed that this is due to warming of the beer in the tower portion of my kegorator. \u00a0To fix this, I&#8217;ll be sheathing the beer-line in copper tubing, which&#8217;ll act as a heat-sink to the main body of the kegorator. \u00a0A minor problem, but one which is irritating none-the-less.<\/p>\n<p>As for the beer, its good. \u00a0This is the sixth or seventh time I&#8217;ve brewed this beast, and as in the past its a good beer. \u00a0The only difference is the brew has a bit of \u00a0a yeasty odour\/flavour. \u00a0I did swap out my normal Wyeast American Ale for Safale US-05, but I doubt that is the issue &#8211; far more likely, I kegged to soon. \u00a0It should fade with\u00a0ageing\u00a0&#8211; that is, if I don&#8217;t drink all the beer first.<\/p>\n<p>Since this beer is kegged, the label is for a tap handle (see image to left). \u00a0But since some will need to go into bottles, I&#8217;ve designed bottle labels as well (image below).<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-9GdcRF-69TA\/T_mtgAlMm6I\/AAAAAAAAAJU\/MLNEcgRYvpc\/s1600\/La%2BLune%2BBleu.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-9GdcRF-69TA\/T_mtgAlMm6I\/AAAAAAAAAJU\/MLNEcgRYvpc\/s400\/La%2BLune%2BBleu.jpg?resize=400%2C35&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"400\" height=\"35\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The La Lune Bleu is now kegged and carbed &#8211; an old recipe combined with my first attempt at kegging<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[4,7],"tags":[53,195],"class_list":["post-707","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-homebrewing","category-recipes","tag-tasting-notes","tag-wit"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
