So the\u00a0Crepuscular Porter<\/a>\u00a0has been in the keg a few weeks and it has come out fantastic. \u00a0Its a bit darker than I anticipated – I was expecting a dark nut-brown, but instead its \u00a0as dark as any stout. \u00a0But that aside, its otherwise exactly what I was hoping for. \u00a0In many ways, it has exceeded my hopes.<\/p>\n

This porter pours with a thick, creamy head, that does the “Guinness\u00a0thing” where bubbles of beer appear to move downwards. \u00a0This quickly subsides into a thinner, but long lasting head that leaves strands of\u00a0Belgium\u00a0lace down the sides of the glass.<\/p>\n

This head\u00a0overlays\u00a0a brew with strong malt-notes, that has hints of\u00a0nuttiness\u00a0and coffee-like roastiness. \u00a0Unscarred\u00a0by any hop aroma, the slight fruitiness of the British ale yeast is detectable\u00a0among\u00a0the strong coffee and nut aromas.\u00a0 The smell is so\u00a0enticing\u00a0that I have, on occasion, almost forgot that I’m supposed to drink it.<\/p>\n

Every sip of this beer is heavenly. \u00a0It is silky on the\u00a0tongue, with malty sweetness nicely balanced by subtle, but\u00a0noticeable\u00a0hop bitterness. \u00a0Despite the (relatively) large amounts of darker malts, there is no detectable astringency. \u00a0This beer featured light\u00a0chocolate\u00a0malt – a rarer malt that is slightly less roasted than conventional chocolate malt. \u00a0The impact of this malt is profound – while the beer still has a dark colour, the usual in-your-face roasted\u00a0flavor\u00a0and its\u00a0accompanied\u00a0astringency is missing. \u00a0In its place is a mellow, and\u00a0entirely\u00a0pleasant,\u00a0nuttiness. \u00a0It makes for a much smoother and easy-drinking brew. \u00a0This mellow nuttiness, combined with this beers modest body, means that\u00a0unconsciousness, not a heavy stomach, limits how\u00a0many pints one can quaff in a single sitting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
