Solera Series Part 1 – Starting a Solera
This is the first video in a short series on managing a beer solera in your home brewery. In this video we discuss what a solera is, how you operate a solera, and go over a series of important factors you need to consider before starting a new solera.
As part of this series I have prepared some files to make planning and running your solera easier. The files generated for this video are linked to below. Please note I changed the colour scheme in the solera planner to a different one than that shown in the video. This new format has clearer colour gradations within typical solera ages.
- Solera Planner (typical solera, PDF) – a graphic used to calculate the time between withdrawals and the amount withdrawn in order to achieve a specific convergent age.
- Solera Planner (long-aged solera, PDF) – same as above, but optimized for soleras with a convergent age of more than 48 months
- Solera Planner (spreadsheet format, XLSX format) – same as above, but in text format rather than graphical
