2018 In Review

2018 died a little over 24 hours, so it is time for a look back at the year that was.

The Good: My move to me new site (suigenerisbrewing.com) is totally complete, and most of my readers are viewing the new site (although my old site still gets about 15% of my traffic). I’ve spread my wings a little more, and appeared twice in 2018 on podcasts – Experimental Brewing back in February, and on Milk the Funk – The Podcast in early December.

My blogs brought in just over 100,000 visitors over the past year, which isn’t too shoddy given the more limited content over the past year. My youtube channel had a banner year, increasing subscribers by 40% with over 300,000 minutes watched across 74,000 video views.

My brewing production was also up this year, compared to 2017 – I made 17 batches of beer/cider/mead, plus a couple of kit wines. A few were even good! So I’m edging back towards my pre-child production levels.

The Bad: I’ve failed for the 3rd year running to improve my video production rate. Not counting my flashy new channel trailer, I put out a measly 3 videos this year, and all of them in the past 3 months. I have two videos in the editing queue – including one started back in 2016…

The Ugly: I think my mash tun/cooler is dying – it no longer seems to insulate well, and its thermal mass is creeping up. Probably a sign that the insulation is water-logged.

Quick Stats

Upcoming in 2019

I’ll be honest, I don’t really have any specific brewing plans for the upcoming year. I am waiting on some snow to finish up a (fun) video. I’m hoping to put in a hop yard this spring. But other than that, I don’t have anything in particular planned for videos or blog topics for 2019.
